The Ben-Wah fambly pics on the deer hunting thread reminded me I got a pawnshop 760 Gamemaster '06 from the '50s or '60s gathering dust. Type with the slim grooved fore end.

If any of y'all have done a low end custom with a 760 or 7600 I'd like to see the path you took. Know several of you were threatening to do so in a thread last year about a Hillbilly Custom job.

During my brief sojourn outside of law enforcement, I actually kept it in my truck along with several mags for a defense rifle that would actually penetrate auto bodies, but have still yet to show it to a whitetail or other critter.

Have thought about giving it the Benoit treatment for several years.

Anyways, it's missing the rear sight, the toe of the stock was broken off, so I had it trimmed back and somebody's throwaway soft trap recoil pad screwed on and a Weaver rail with nothing on it.

Wanting a hell for tough handy killing machine that I ain't worried about getting nicked or scratched too much.

Off this week, may take it to my deputy/machinist buddy and have him cut and crown the barrel at 20 or less to start...maybe put on a flash hider so I can set it muzzle down on the floorboards.

I'm open to just about anything on the cheap side from Krylon and camo synthetic to nice walnut with a matte finish.

I may replace the rear sight and I may not. Scopewise I got a Weaver K3 Post on my Frontier .358 right now that would look era appropriate, or may just go Terminator and put an Aimpoint CompM2 on it.

I had a 7600 .308 with a 17.5" barrel and youth model 870 20ga. stock.

For optics I used a Trijicon TR21R 1.25-4. To compensate for the shorter length of pull and long eye relief of the optic I had a custom extended weaver base built.

This rifle rode in my truck for several years and killed quite a few deer.

It was short, light and handy. Perfect for the heavy brush and swamps of Tidewater Va.

Federal 165 Fusions were sub moa and killed well.

I have a 760 in the works right now. Looked at the B&C 2 piece stocks, but actually decided on the Ramline synthetic, as it is lighter and slimmer for a lot less money. I will be doing the action and barrel in Arma-coat when I get it back from the smith.

I would skip the flash hider and just have them cut a recessed crown.

I've got one I'm ready to really wring out.
It's wears the Remington low synthetic stocks, has had sling swivels added, has had a trigger job, and has a custom set of iron sights. The rear sight is a fully adjustable williams peep sight. The front is a banded ramp, which has a provision for changing the front sight bead if they get damaged. The bead itself has a flip up, very large white bead for use in bad light if the large brass bead isn't enough.
Sofar, it's shot groups around an inch at 50 yds. with handloaded 220 gr. Hornady's and a reduced load using a 125/130 gr. bullet. The reduced load shoots the same zero as the 220's. That will be nice as a mild kicking practice load.
It's my specialized, close cover elk rifle for those really thick timber areas where the big ones go to rest when the pressure is off of them in the middle of the season. Going to use the 220 gr. Nosler Partition as my standard load in that one.
It's an '06 odviously and, no, I'm not going to shorten the barrel. It handles fine the way it is. E

My old 760 o6 have killed more game with this than any other rifle I own. Myrtle stock, bead blast blue.

KK, thanks for the picture. Where did you get the stocks? That is pretty. I need a higher comb like that for optics use.

Were I to go with irons only, I'd try to find an 870 Special Field 20 ga. stock to put on the back end.

Other purposes, not so much.

Yep, but I'm having no luck finding one. Not even semi-custom walnut joints.

Thinking I may cobble up some 110s at max velocities and see how they group and chrono before I bob the barrel. This may go back to being a truck and tractor gun year round, maybe a loaner to folks who want to go hunting but gots no bangsticks.

Qucik question on the savage 170.. Where is the safety on the rifle Crossbolt? Tang?

Tang. Look at the Savage pump shotguns, many parts interchange.

I like my 7600 enough to have an exact duplicate by Remington.



Twin ought-sixes. Leupold VXII 3-9X40 on bottom. Killed more than a few deers. Haven't shot the top one, but I think it'll shoot fine.
Custom sling-swivel studs, mounts, and rings installation.

Clickety-clackity, Bang, dead deer.

On my particular 7600 it was more: clickety-clackity, Dang, the magazine fell out, running away deer.

Sucker was more accurate than some bolts tho. Just took a real squeeze to get the magazine to lock in.

I have one and although it is complete factory it is my favorite. It is a 06 synthetic carbine model. I went true PA fashion with over and under mounts. Its a peach.

Remington pump rifles are supposed to be pretty accurate right? as opposed to the semi-autos,if this is wrong,correct me.

What is an over/under mount?I don't know.

Cheesy See throughs = over under mounts. Put the scope way out of the way of the irons. Makes the scope the back up sight LOL. Made Famous in Pennsyltucky. I had two, down to one. Both will run with my custom bolt guns. 180gr Round nose core-lokts stay sub MOA
