Ditto what Allen said, even though I don't have my own yet.
Jim, If you shoot a 480, you'll hang up your 45 for the same reason you hung up your 44. I am still amazed at the accuracy and mild recoil of the 480, and can't wait to put the mold I got to use in my own gun! Buddy let me shoot his, and I'm hooked. We'll be shooting a 310 gr, 390 gr, and he's working on the design of a 420 gr.

Hey Y'all,
I appreciate all the advice. I'd seen Linebaugh's article before and reread it. I think it's a great reality check.
On July 4, I was with my family. We packed up the truck with twice the value of the truck in guns and did a little shooting. I finally got to shoot a .44SRH (Scoped) and .45BH. Neither really bothered my recoil wise, but both revealed that I needed some practice.
I've all but decided on a .45LC Stainless BH w/ a 7" barrel. I do plan to get a set of oversized grips, though. The really help me get a handle on the gun. Besides, I think it will go well with my 45-70
Again, thanks for all the advice. Y'all keep em' in the ten ring.
--QD

I learned something in this thread too. I hate to admit it, but since I never liked the way they looked or felt in a gun store I never had paid any attention to the Ruger Super Redhawk, but what I learned was that there was a plain Redhawk. Hell, I have never even seen one, that I know of. Old dogs can learn something new everyday, I guess.

But even not liking the way they look, I am contemplating a SRH in .480 based mostly on 458Lott's description of shooting one, here and in another forum. They are supposedly very accurate.

458Lott is very correct about the accuracy of the 480 Ruger. Mine will consistantly hit a quart sized oil can at 50 yards if I do my part. And the recoil is not a whole lot more than the 44 mag loaded with 300 grain bullets. Mine is a little dissapointing in the velocity dept. though, only getting 1345 with 325 grain Hornady's and 26.8 grains of H110. Paul, you want to make me an offer on my 7 1/2" version so I can concentrte n my 9 1/2" version
