Can anyone help me with identifying what model 99 I have?
ser.# 511219
barrel marking-savage arms corporation chicopee falls Mass. USA
reciever mark-Savage model 99
lever boss stamp is not an oval it's a square with a line radiating out at right angles from the flats of the square and no stamp inside the square
barrel is 24 in. with an integral front sight ramp and the rear sight is a 2 leaf express sight.
pistol grip stock and shnauble fore-end with standard sav. checkering and metal butt-plate
your help would be greatly appreciated

That would be a 99EG, only model at that time with a schnabel forearm. I believe it dates to 1950...

calhoun i'am going to disagree early 1949 no leverboss code 1948 ended around 494000

what i'am thinking JOE is murray may be out 15000 or LBC started partway through 49 like in never say never LOL

No it's a 49, you were right. I've got 49's listed up into the high 520's.

I don't use Murrays for dating purposes he was off alot on some of it. I think he got the dates from somewhere else and just put them in the book.

where do the 48s stop inyour chart and what is date of first LBC ???????

Not real sure, Rick has better data on that kind of stuff.

I know the last Utica serial number was 4476XX and then they started at 500,000 in May of 1947. The serial number stamper was down as well in 1947 for a short time, maybe they did it old school and did it by hand. There was no production from Oct 1947 to May while they were moving. I think if you find a 99 with a real low 500's serial you are looking at a 48.
