What do you guys think of them?

An employee at my local BassPro told me they are made from the same blanks, same machines as the G Loomis rods....just a different day and labeled as such.

I have no reason not to believe him as I think I remember that Shimano bought G Loomis.

I just bought one the other day, a 7' UL with a Med, Fast action and it feels awesome!.......

Another thing the guy told me is if I break the rod BP will exchange it with a new one no questions asked!

I dont even think a Loomis warranty could compete with that warranty.

Oh yeah...it will be my Crappie/Bluegill rod.

I am a HUGE fan of Shimano rods (for bass fishing). I own, somewhere in the neighborhood, of 15.

I have crucial rods, compre rods, claurus and convergence rods... All have their purpose and use, all are well liked.

G-Loomis uses well over 25 or 30 different mandrels for the Production of Loomis rods. Shimano blanks are probably rolled up on some of the same used for various quality levels of Loomis rods. It wouldn't take a whole lot to be as good as or better than a Loomis GL-2.

A Shimano blank the same quality level as a Loomis GLX wouldn't happen as Shimano would never sell for $375.00 a pop.

I have two great Shimano musky fishing rods. I'd buy more.

We use them differently, but I have about 16 Shimano trolling rods on my Salmon boat and they are great quality.

Checked out many different top line rods yesterday at the Fred Hall show in Long Beach, always looking for a better more sensitive rod for pitching jigs, drop shotting etc, the new Mojo rods from St Croix seem to be a heck of a rod for 100 bones, some of the new Okuma werent bad either but after checking out the Shimano line which is very good I checked out the rods from Dobyns, they are something else, top of the line spinning rod goes for @ 300 bones, but lightness, backbone with a very fast tip, best I have had in my hands bar non, gonna have to get one,
pricey but nothing compared to a top line fly rod,

I am a bass/walleye fisherman and have both bass and saltwater Shimano rods. They are excellent. But I have some G Loomis rods that I think are a step above. My wife paid $85 for a Loomis 5 1/2' UL for my birthday about 20-25yrs ago. I can absolutely feel a crappie fart on the bottom in 30' of water with that rod. Good luck

I've got a lot of different rods, including St. Croix and Falcons. I've got one Shimano and I think it's right up there.

which Shimano Rod for Ultra Lite say 4lb to 6lb line for trout, Crappie, etc

I just picked up a 5'6" Shimano Ultralight...their model no. CVS-FS56UL-2A..if thats any help...$49.95

None of them are worth a crap when paired up against such things as car doors, ceiling fans, and motor props. (Voice of experience here.)

Very true, but the guy and BP told me he will exchange me a rod even if I walk out the door and break it on purpose with Shimano's warranty.

Dats good to hear Tom, I use the same 5'6"on pike too.....

I have 2 Crucials, and had 2 more that broke, both my fault, but my GLoomis rods receive the same abuse and I have yet to break one. My fishing partner laid out 200 bones on a Cumara, and it broke on the first trip while landing a fish. I like the weight, actions, and sensitivity of the higher end Shimano rods, but they seem a little fragile for my tastes. They are not Gloomis rods, not even close.

This'll be my first Shimano rod, and Im a little hard on them, especially during a pike trip...so we shall see...

The little rods arent made for this, but it sure is phun, and when I total one out ( which is actually rare...) I write it off an as operating expense..

Tom, I love fishing with ultralights...most of my fishing is with them.

You get to "fight" a bit more with the fish, and I love that part too.

I'm a big fan of the Shimano Stradic 1000 reel along with a light action rod with fast tip such as a GLomis for trout, crappie, and other moderate sized freshwater fish. I use a larger Stradic reel for larger freshwater species such as bass when I want an open faced reel.
