I was wondering any information or experiences you guys have had with the 10mm cartridge in terms of recoil and the cost of plinking loads. Also if you have used it to hunt. I understand that their are better calibers to handgun hunt with but boy I sure like the idea of the 10mm. If nothing it would be a good trail gun for me. Thanks

I've got a nice Smith 1006 in 10 mm. I bought it for company when I wander around in bear country, and am too lazy to carry a rifle. It's a lot more than just a casual round, I discovered. Very accurate out my unmodified pistol. Eight MOA with most factory loads, and 5 MOA with handloads. Flat shooting, like plus/minus 2 inches all the way to 110 yds. with 180 gr. loads. Add this to the superior rugged construction, and ease of maintenece, of an auto loader, and I'm very pleased. They do kick noticibly harder than the 1911 .45 ACP guns. The Glock should be OK, but the 1911 guns are not much fun to shoot. The Smiths are also much nicer to shoot. Good luck, E

I have a 10mm Glock (mod 20,high cap) that I am really pleased with. Recoil seems to me less than a .45 auto. Ammo is quite expensive, compared to more popular rounds like the .44 mag. <BR> I own several handguns ranging from .22's to .44 mag, but the Glock seems to give me a fairly high-powered handgun in a small package that's not too bulky to actually carry...and it's the one I usually take along, if any. I'm not a big handgun shooter, but the Glock does just fine for me as far as accuracy... I've never shot a large animal with it, but have shot several rabbits & grouse. I'm seldom without a rifle, though, and the Glock is usually just a backup. <BR> The down side of the 10mm is it's quite a step down from the larger handguns in power, and it's getting harder to find loaded ammo for it...it never was that popular a round. If I were actually HUNTING with a handgun, I'd go with a .44 or .454 . So I guess it's just a matter of intended use...kg

FWIW:<P>I'd recommend a Glock 21 in .45 auto...then get yourself a .40 Super barrel!<P>Both use the same mags, frame, and slide, but the .40 launches a 10mm slug even more quickly than the 10mm itself, and at lower pressures. Norma loads have nothing on this bad boy! This is due to the larger internal dimensions of that .40 S case.<P>Plus, shooting cheap surplus .45 plinkin' ammo is just a barrel-swap away!
