After visiting over at Accuratereloading forums. I went and checked back over at Magnum Researche's website.
http://www.magnumresearch.com/
And sure enough they now offer the "BFR" in not only the 45/70. But also the 450 Marlin, and 480 Ruger. I asked them to build me one in 450 Marlin last year, and they said they couldn't do it. I guess thing's have changed.
What a set, Marlin's 450 guide gun, and the BFR revolver w/10" barrel, and both using the same cartridge.
You all still think the 450 is a "Dead Cow". Kind of wished I'd have held off on that 480 Ruger now. The BFR is stainless also and is only $100 more than the Ruger.
Phil

The 45LC/.410 combo sounds like it could be my newest squirrel gun. Wonder what the effective range of the .410 would be. Mike

Why bother when you can already get both a Marlin 1895GS and a BFR in 45/70?

Hey Jackfish, if I find out that the BFR 450 is using factory, and not a de-tuned 450 Marlin round. It may well be my next revolver. Depends on whether I decide to keep the 480 Ruger.
Phil

Phil,
Have you found the 480 lacking? I'm very, very pleased with mine. It's shot every cast bullet I've tried in it into a 5 shot 1" group at 25 yds, and most do 1" at 50 yds. I've pushed 460 gr WFN's 1050 fps, and they shoot 1" at 50 yds. That may pale in comparison to what a 450 can do, but if that load is inadequate, then IMHO its time for a rifle, and a big one at that!
I consider the BFM's to be novelty guns, they simply are to big to be used as a handgun.

Lott, not in the least. Just pulling Jack's leg (grin), it's one of those 45/70-450 Marlin things. All in fun "I hope". Haven't even had the 480 to the range yet! Right after I bought it things went to hell, missed out on all my hunting aspects for this year, changed job's again (went back to where I was at in the first place). Realitors and Loan Broakers driving me nuts (house finally made it to the Recorders Office, should pick up the key's Friday). And was only able to squeeze in one little fishing trip, and got skunked on that.
Phil

Ah, I haven't been to this sight in a few weeks, and really haven't hung out seriously for the last few months, so obviously missed out on the 450 Marlin vs 45-70 banter.
Personally I'd go with a 475 in a lever gun, and a the 480 on the hip. I haven't had a chance to see if the 480's will function in the 475 lever guns, but it would be an interesting combo. I've also heard Winchester will be offering a 480 lever gun in the future. The only question is what bullets will function through the magazene. Still, a 400 gr bullet at 1500 or more from a pistol cased svelt little lever gun has some appeal, and I'm sure 350's could be launched at 1700 or maybe better.

480 Lever gun, now that would be just the ticket. Honastly I think any rifle, hand gun combo that uses the same cartridge is interesting. So long as the pistol doesn't break something, and/or weigh more than the rifle.
Phil

I made a post about this gun some time back.
Its my under standing that this revolver is rediculusly hevy.and For just a bit more than the cost of the 45/70 you can get a ruger 44mag deerfield carbine, AND a Ruger Hedhawk in the same cal.
I 45/70 is a long cartidge, ment for a longer berrel then on this gun. So you will not get volositys like with a rifle. Also all factry ammo, and loading data will be with slow burning powders. What will problay hapen is you will send still burning powder out the muzzle, which you payed for and get no benifit from. Hand gun cartiges work fine in some rifles, but the opiset is not allway trew.

some combos that work for me are the 357 , 41 mag , 44 mag in Ruger or S&W revolver and Marlin lever . Ruger 454 & 450 Marlin Lever.
( difference in diameter but who cares )
If you reload the 44 mag and the 444 Marlin with same heavy bullet works. Haven't done the 45 LC (yet).

Since I just picked up my Ruger SRH in .454 Casull, I'd like to see it mated to a brand, spanking new lever gun in the same caliber!
If not available within the next 18 months, I'll have to settle for the BFR in 45/70.
