A few years back I traded for a 336 that had been rechambered from .219 Zipper to .225 winchester. At first I was very discouraged with it as i could only load two rounds to be safe and then when I shot it with 55gr factory ammo it was key holing at 50yds. I almost got rid of it then I bought a set of dies and reload for it with a 45gr fp or hp hornet bullets. This solved both of my problems as it now shoots good and I can load several rounds in it. I discovered that the twist rate was to slow for the longer bullets. I shot quite a few coyotes and hogs with it as it used to be my truck gun. It has been setting in the safe for a few years now and I am debating having the barrel rebored to a differnt caliber possibly 7mm and go with a 7-30 waters or possibly trading it off for some thing different. What would you guys do with it?

To bad it's been rechambered, the 336sc's in 219 are all going for over a grand. I want one, but can't justify it.

Yeah I wish it would have been original, My understanding is that alot of 219 zippers where rechambered to 225 winchester because 219 brass and loaded ammo became unavailable. I'd sell this one for less than half that with dies, brass, and loaded ammo.

Suggest you talk with Norm Johnson at High Plains Reboring in Turtle Lake ND.

Could be a 25-35, 7mm Waters, 30-30, 32-40, 32 special, 375 WRA or 38-55.

Reboring is a cheap effective way to fix a bad bore/wrong caliber issue.

I am thinking the the .225 Winchester is nothing more than the .219 Zipper Improved but I may be wrong.
