Do any of you have any thoughts on the Ruger K77/22VMBZ in 22 WMR or 22 Hornet? Been looking at them, but reports I have been seeing have not been good.
Den-Den

I currently have the 22Mag varmint. I love it. It shoots great, best group at 100yrds .89. That's not bad for a 22. I can't say enough about this rifle. if you get one you'll be very happy with it's performance.
Paul

I just bought one this month and I love it.
I got it for hunting and off-season practice.
I had the trigger honed down to 1.5lbs and
that's all I've done to it. It really likes
the CCI Maxi Mag HP's and the Win.40gr HP's.
It has the look and feel of a centerfire rifle and should serve me well.Good Luck

BTW, Most of the "bad reports" that I have seen, were folks trying to make a Bench Gun
out of one, which it is not. It is however
a fine hunting rifle and an excellent rifle
to hone your shooting skills in the off-season. Mine will average well under an inch
for 3-shot groups @ 100yds with the CCI Maxi
Mag HP's and that's far better than I can
shoot offhand. It is also a hell for stout action, available also in 22 Hornet and 44 Mag.Just my thoughts, good luck...Littlebit

Hey littlebit,
Have you tried the Rem 40gr hollow points or the 40 FMJ. They came out last year, I think, and have given me the best accuracy out of my rifle.
Now I didn't have the trigger done and it does need it. I also have to upgrade the scope from the 4x tasco elcheepo to something a little better. But that being said I shoot 5 shot groups consistently in the .94 range. With the best being .89 which I think can be improve with a little upgrade on the scope and trigger.
My .02
Paul

Paul,
Thanks for the info. No, I haven't tried the
Rem.40gr HP's or the FMJ's. I bought 7 different boxes of ammo with the gun but the
store didn't have the Rem.Ammo.
I put a Burris Signature 3x9x40 w/posi-lock
scope on mine that I had on another rifle
that I never shot.
Those factory trigger pulls are "lawyer proof",sorry Waders! A smooth, light trigger
makes a huge difference. Well worth the cost.

Got to get ready for work, I'll post the results of the 7 boxes of ammo,if anybody's
interested,in the morning.

Here's what I got with mine last weekend.
Avg of 3,3-shot groups @ 100yds
CCI Maxi Mag HP------------0.82"
Win 40gr HP----------------1.15"
CCI Maxi Mag FMJ-----------1.17"
Win 40gr FMJ---------------1.83"
Win Supreme 34gr-----------2.01"
PMC Predator 40gr---------2.15"
CCI Mini Mag +V------------2.97"
I have read, tweaking the action screws
might help but haven't tried it.
Thinking about free floating the barrel
and Steel bedding the action this summer
but don't know if that's a good idea.
Would LOVE to get hold of some primed
22WMR brass but I'm daydreaming...

Littlebit,
I might be FOS but i seem to remember seeing an ad for primed WMR brass and a special die set made to contain the bullet and vent the gas if the thing went off durring loading.
It was a long time ago (at least 10 years) and i can't for the life of me remember where i saw the ad. Sory, it probably wouldn't help if i remembered any way.
I agree that the trigger is lawyer proof, almost like shooting a military rifle with all the creep the thing has.
The CCI MAXI MAG FMJ shot next best in my rifle. I have been waiting for a long, long, long time to get a hold of the new Remington 33gr polimer tip varmint load. Soon hopefully.
Paul

Disclaimer: I am in no way connected or related to the following company.
If any of you guys want a very decent trigger for your Ruger .22 or whatever, check out Dayton Traister Co. They can deliver you a very decent trigger at substantially less than a Jewell or Arnold.
With postage will run about $50. Give or take. Phone # is 360-679-4657. My Jewell trigger for a 10/22 was in the neighborhood of $200, just for comparisons sake. Good Shooting.

I think the .22 mags shoot ok. There has been a lot of trouble with the hornet. It seems the stainless varmint models tend to shoot, but the sporter weight blued models are hit or miss, some giving really poor accuracy, and Ruger doing little or nothing to correct it. I have wanted a hornet for years, and was eager to put my money down for a Ruger till I read an article in Varmint hunter magazine about them. The conclusion of the article was, you can get a Ruger and spend $XXX to get it to shoot, or spend a little more and get a CZ 527 that will shoot out of the box. I got the CZ, shot a 3 shot .3" group the first day at the range. It will shoot all my handloads into less than 1/2". It weighs under 6 # and is a great walk around varminter. The hornet is too much fun for any rifleman not to have one.

I was looking at a barely used 22 hornet until the guy who works at the store pointed out that 22 hornet ammo costs more than .223 ammo.

.223 ammo $.10-$.50 per round
.22H ammo $.35-$.75 per round

Terry Kopp a gunsmith in Missouri (I believe) had a supply of Primed .22 WMR brass at one time. He also had the dies available for forming into a .17 caliber wildcat too. This however was several years ago.

Might be worth looking into.

Larry
