Anyone doing any duck or goose hunting this fall? I've jump shot a few local canadian geese on cattle ponds and a few ducks off the creek. Hoping for cold weather up north, to bring them further south.

Duck hunting here has been good until the extreme cold snap froze the rivers and lakes on the plains just before xmas.

My son and I are going tomorrow am. All wound up and can't sleep so I am on the campfire. Canadians were really moving today in the fields behind our house. Put out about 50 shells and some fullbodies. Geese were comming in around us and landing while we were setting decoys. Hopefully we will hammer them tomorrow!

leftycarbon, I am starting to see a little more waterfowl activity. The cold weather up north prior to Christmas may have started more birds further south. We've had strange weather here in TN. these last two weeks. Last week it was in the teens, this week it's in the upper 60's. Good luck

Hunter,

Well we went out but the cold weather & spitting rain and sleet went during the night to 60 F. bluebird day and no geese flying.

The last few days they have been moving mostly at night and havent seen any birds in the air. Places like the Wall mart storm ponds and such are just loaded with them as are parts of the Potamic River, but there flying very little. We need a good freeze to get them out in the fields.

I've been out four times so far this season and each day has been a bluebird day. Darndest thing I've seen in a long while: the forecast will call for overcast, mild winds, etc. each and every time, yet we are setting up decoys under a star-lit sky early the next morning. What few birds that have been flying have been quite high and won't work much. Estimated to be between 6-8000 canadas in the area...darned frustrating.

Of course, a couple days later some other buddies are using the blind and limit-out in a few hours.

Borealis Bob, I know how you feel, being disapointed in the weather conditions. It's been in the 60's & 70's here for the last few weeks. It's supposed to get into the 30's for the low this weekend and then probably back into the 60's. Strange year, Goose & Duck season closes 30 Jan. i hope it gets better be then. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

hunter1960...

Yes, get ready...we're gonna send some cold air your way. Had plans for this weekend but now the forecast has swung very much the other direction : wind chills around -15. This has me considering staying at home and whipping up a batch of chili while the playoffs are on.

I go boar hunting in the Crossville area and absolutely have fallen in love with the countryside and the folks there. Might head down there for another hunt in March and look at property at the same time.

Anyhow, hope you limit out this weekend.
