I by chance came in too late to get the full scoop on barrel lengths for 22-s on a discussion. The tail end was all I got & it was something to this effect.<P>Anything more than 16 1/2 or 18 1/2 was a hinderance to the 22. Reason----<BR>the longer barrel was actually slowing the bullet down. Is this true?????

I also missed the discussion you are talking about, but as I understand it the velocity slows down after 20".

I seem to recollect having read many years back that .22's reach maximum velocity in about a 16" barrel. The article said that velocity losses in longer barrels were negligible.
