Yes I'm excited!!!! With the guidance and tutelage of one of the other gunsmiths at work, we finished the re-chamber job on one of my Husky 9.3 x 57's to 9.3 x 62! I believe this is a model 648 Husky. It has the FN commercial 98 action. I had the old 2 x 7 Redfield tele screen scope recently given to me so I put it on. Works very well on the old military SSR mount. Safety clears and all.

Headspace is perfect, fired brass looks great! Feeds the ammo excellently and I can't wait to get it to the range. Installed a steel rear action bolt sleeve and bedded it all with a bit of epoxy. Doesn't look like the stock will develop any of those tell-tale Husky splits,,,,,so far....... May do a bit more relief work in this area.

Nilgai! Here I come!!!!!

LOL! Yeah, it's ugly as a mud fence. I didn't know how I'd like that handle. But, like a fungus, it's kinda growing on me. For that quick second shot, it seems to work pretty well. Very accessable. I'll have to play with it!

Yeah, that bolt handle looks as long as the legs on a swimsuit model! smile

Really cool rifle and about perfect for a Nilgai. Would love to hunt those myself there someday. Nice work there.

The mess is cleaned up. Time for the story......

Okay,,,,,, so there I was tonight just enjoying a pleasant spring evening on the front porch. Glanced out across the bottom and saw a black object thru the tall grass. There he was. I could clearly see the top of his back. It was evident he was no slouch of a hog. Haven't had the opportunity to sight in the scope since finishing her out yesterday, So I say to myself, "try out the open sights on the new 9.3, they couldn't be that far off."

To the gun safe I go. I load two rounds into the mag, chamber a round and stalk up to the fence, carefully keeping a tree between the hog and myself. The wind was right. The boar was rooting and eating the deer's corn. Took aim at the spot where the neck meets the shoulder, right behind the ear and voila, fresh pork!!!!! Apparently, the open sights are dead on using the Prvi factory 285 grainers at 25-30 yds! (Glad I had on my reading glasses). Went down like a load of bricks! Almost in the same spot where the son-in-law killed the big boar Palm Sunday weekend. What amazed me the most was just how pleasant this rifle was to shoot! I'm impressed....

Nice rifle...nice pig...good job...good eating!

Last year I took my Hawkeye .338 RCM...this year I took my RSI .338 Fed...now I'm really seriously thinking about my 9.3x57 laugh.

Very nice! laugh

I sure regret having recently sold mine very similar to that... frown My sidemounted Hensoldt 4X returned right back to zero in a similar mount to yours.

These are excellent rifles and a joy to hold.
cool cool

Yep, the ol' 9.3x62 is just a lovely cartridge IMHO. A true classic that just gets the job done without a lot of fuss. The 9.3x62 is one of my most favorite cartridges.

Congrats on the rifle and the piggy!!! [Linked Image]

Nice - it all just came together. Good stuff.

Here is to a very intellectually ( whistle ) looking hunter, peeping over his glasses, his 9,3 and many meals to come.

My two cents worth I like the 9.3 calibers and own a 9.3x57, 9.3x62 and a 9.3x64, and they are all very pleasant to shoot, but I like shooting a 375 H&H and 45-70 too.

Nice. I like the older looking classics. It appears however that with the drop in the comb that it is stocked to use with open sights. Do you have to pick your head off the stock to use the scope?
Nice old style rifle! Congrates.

"Do you have to pick your head off the stock to use the scope"?

Thanks! Not all that much. Still very comfortable to use the scope. It's a regular Swedish military SSR. Really no different than the German WWII sniper SSR's with just about the same drop in the stock. I really like the old style rifles.

That's a great looking rifle! I would not change anything and the caliber choice is excellent. Congrats!
