a friend just brought by a Marlin .22 for my kids. (Long story there, but a good one).
It is a Marlin 1897, well hunted, well maintained, NO BLUING left.
It came in to his family in 1929, was probably used then. I'm looking to fix it up a little (plastic butt plate is chipped/cracked, magazine tube slightly boogered, etc).
Anything to look out for? Internals to check or maintain? Special spots to lube?

Do not fire High-Velocity ammo in it, it will damage the bolt. Stick with SV ammo and everything will be fine.

Thanks. Having a tough time getting the tube magazine out. Might be a little slow loading it by breaking it down every 15 rounds!
I expect the inner tube is crusted to the outer tube, with gunk, or oxidation.

Sycamore Stand the rifle on its muzzle and spray some Kroil down into the magazine tube and let it work its magic. The inner tube should break free unless there is a dent in either the inner or outer tube. Once you get the inner tube free, I'm sure you'll know what needs to be done to solve the issue. Tim
