Before I moved the Sierra-Nevada foothills, I bought myself a couple of new fly rods. A 7 1/2 fot and an 8 1/2 ft., #6 pair of Cabela's graphite rods for use with my old SA fly reel.
But after doing a little fishing up here, I've decided to get new gear. That's because the places where I really like fish are not what I envisoned. For instance, the roadside streams don't have much quality fly fishing. Only a very few of the lakes do. Most of the real quality stuff is a pretty good hike back into the boonies.
So, for those tight, really small treams a new #4 weight. 5 1/2 foot TQR from Cabela's. For those long hikes where the Goldens grow to 16 inches, an 8 1/2 ft., #4 pack rod. New Cabela's Prestige Fly Reels as well. I can control the running fish better by putting pressure on the exposed rims and they have much better drags.
Bought some new fly lines and some basic leaders as well.
Now all I need is something reasonbly light in the way of footwear to do a little wading when needed. Any ideas ? E

When it's warm out and I have to do a lot of hiking I just wade in my hiking boots. It's just like when I was a kid and didn't want to wears rubber waders or hip boots while fishing streams.

During the summer, I usually use old tennis shoes, etc. I seem to recall that much use of them wading and they would fall apart. I'm told the new design water shoes hold up well with continued use.
Got some Teva Omnium water soles designed for river guides. And some SealSkinz waterproof socks. I kinda like the idea of keeping my feet as warm as possible while wading in those back country lakes. They are far lighter than packing any of my waders.
So, we shall see. E
