Trout are moving up a small creek near our house, and the boy has been busy. Six pound and seven pound brown trout respectively...

I don't have a skillet big enough for one of those!

Mike, that's awesome. Wild spots on that first brown. Are you on the N or S Island? Looks to be N? My wife and I went to the N Island for our honeymoon. We will definately be back, probably the S Island next time. What a fabulous place.

North Island, Rotorua to be exact. While the North Island is fabulous, the South Island is fantastic. Make sure that you make the trip back.

Mike.... those are great fish you guy caught. Wwe fished around the Rotorua region with Simon Robertson. We also fished south of you, around the Taupo region. The Tongariro, Ripa, Ngaruroro and Mohaka Rivers. The Ngaruroro was off the charts.

I go bit by a fresh water eel, scared the he11 out of me when that thing latched on to me and did the death roll....

I was doing net duties and we had just released the big rainbow my wife caught in the picture above when I was bit. We had seen several eels throughout the the day while netting and releasing fish, of course we were told they never mess with you, bite etc. This one was approx 3 foot.

Mike have you ever heard of anyone getting bit by the eels. The locals we were with had not and were taking pictures and laughing. I wasn't so much.

Tetanus shot in your immediate future? Eels are toothy and nasty...caught some in saltwater and I never touch 'em, simply cut the line.

If that happened to me I don't care how many years ago it was I might still be screaming like a teenage girl! grin

Love to get down there and fish sometime.

Here's a video of one. Fast forward to the one minute part for the best footage.

OK, giant man-eating eels are the only bad thing I've heard about NZ fishing. sick

No, I haven't - no wonder the locals thought it was funny. Maybe USA meat tastes better than NZ meat?
