I have a good load using the 350 round nose. The bullet is listed in the reloading manuals for use in the 1895. Should I be using the flat point or is the round nose O.K. also is one tougher(or better) than the other, I do not see a disadvantage to the Flat point as the guide gun is a short range set up for me( read 100-150 yrds max.) but the round nose is shooting well.I cannot see the round nose setting of the round ahead but just wonder what any of the campfire members think.

The Round Nose is a very good bullet from a hunting standpoint, it performs to perfection on game such as deer and elk. The flat nose bullets have not worked well for me as they tend to be a bit soft in many cases..Just my opine.

This is the kind of info i am looking for...thank you,Atkinson. I remember reading a post in the past saying one bullet held up better than the other but could not remember which one.I assumed the R.N. was/is stronger due to the likely hood of it being loaded in 458 win. and 45/70 #1's. I have also seen and read of its use in the marlin and wondered if a blunt round nose posed any sort of risk.

Round nosed bullets are fine for rifles with tubular magazines; no worries about setting primers off. Pointed noses are the ones to stay away from, at least historically. I've read articles where they tried to get pointy bullets to chain fire in a tubular magazine, and couldn't. Probably because the old lead based priming compounds were more sensitive than today's... Not saying I'd try running Ballistic Tips in my Marlin...

thanks for the info.Kind of thought R.N. were O.K. but had to ask a seemingly silly question.

I like the flat points better -- seem a little tougher to me, but I'm new to the game. Also like the remington 405 FP.

have put the 350gr FN's into half dozen moose and at least double that in blackbear while hunting and guiding. they have always preformed flawlessly, and really stop critters in their tracks. ranges from 160 yards to 6 feet. big big fan. only bullet I use in my .450marlin.
