I may have found a rifle I want, but need some info on the optimum rate of twist for the 300 grain Sierra

1-10 will do you fine, I read of someguys doing the 1-9&1/2 also but I would thik that would be for heavier bullets mostly.

I run a 1-9.75" Its a Barlein 5R. Its shoots 250's and 300's both really well....Its a .338LM but that and the Edge are very close velocity wise.
Luck....is the residue of design...

Is rechambering to 338 edge a simple matter of running a reamer into the 338 Win Barrel?
No feeding issues or messing with the rails?

O.A.L is alot longer on the edge I am running 3.890, also I wouldn't go edge unless the barrel was at least 28 inches or you wouldn't see the benefits. My barrel is 30 inches plus brake.

Yep bipod and rear bag for me too,the weight of my rifle and the brake make it very manageable. It kicks less than a .308

Just a question for you 338 Edge shooters. Do you have to fire form your brass or can you get them already formed? Few shots of new rifle. Hard at work at the local 1000 yd range. What do you fellas use to clean your rifles after fireforming your brass, when using cream of wheat and wax plugs. Never did this before.

um, i may be wrong here, but it seems to me that all you do is run a .300 RUM case through a .338 Edge sizing die, and then load and shoot normally. i may be wrong here, but that is my understanding of the process.

300 RUM brass necked up to 338 with no other changes is all it takes to make a 338 Edge. No fire forming required

Thanks for info. Nice rifle by the way jwp475. Looks like a carbon fiber wrapped barrel. Hope they make a die like that for a 338 Lapua AI someday. This fireforming 338 lapua brass is time consuming and messy. The twist rate on the rifle shown is 9.4/1 Rock creek barrel. Designed for 300 grain bullets. My 338/378 Accumark runs a 10/1 rate for 300 grain bullets.

cheers, zman 2800 fps w/ 300 gr SMK- my 338/378 does that easy. Should be a lot faster than that if it's a 338 Edge. My 338 Lapua IM spits them out at 3000 ft /sec with mild loads.

The Lapua AI can run faster than the edge, and the 338-378 will definitely push 300 gr matchkings faster than the edge it has quite abit more case capacity.Fast for the 338 edge and 300 gr is 2900 fps

Hi Highridge1. And much more accurate. Just working up some loads but looks promising. Here is my last target at 200 meters with the 338 Lapua IM. Imagine a 300 grain bullet at 3000+ ft/sec that's 6100 ft/lbs of energy. Big energy for those long shots. Awesome rifle.
