More south of you in the Portland and east areas, the shop in Hood River comes to mind, a great little store I visit every time I'm lucky enough to be in Hood River, which hasn't been for a number of years now. Thanks for the tip Miss T. I travel through there several times a year, and usually have the cruise set with no intention of pulling over. I knew I was passing up Full Sail, but if there's also a great fly shop then I need to schedule time to take the exit.

ok guys I stepped away from the flyrod for the last 18yrs..
To be honest my rod might have to be stashed for a week or two come hunting seasons. So my budget for a rod is one that won't hurt to bad if someone else finds it and thinks it's a gift from god or something..
Any Rod suggestions in the $150 range?? I did the same thing. Last year, when I decided to get back in to it, I figured my spiral wound fiberglass, 6' 6" Shakespeare rod might not be on the cutting edge any longer. Though it DID account for hundreds of trout 30 years ago... I ended up picking up a few St Croix rods (along with a very lightly used Orvis). St Croix makes a few different levels of rods, at various prices. You can probably find what you need if you look through their stuff.

Anglers workshop...is that the Lamiglass factory storefront? If so, I've been in there a few times and Lamiglass makes excellent rods. I have an older Lamiglass that I put aside for a Sage, only because its a four piece, so I can go high mountain lake fishing. The two piece Lamiglass has every bit as good of feel and delivery than the Sage in my opinion. Been fly fishing since I was 12 and 25 years later, it's like riding a bike, you never forget. A successful rise on a dry fly is as good as it gets.

Actually It's located right next door to the Lamiglass factory.. I contacted Lamiglass about a 9' 5wt 4 piece seconds.. Only thing they had at the time was a 2 piece ..
Anyway, I getting really excited and yes your right it is like riding a bike.. I still got a seriously mean cast!!

Though it DID account for hundreds of trout 30 years ago... Glass rods are making a comeback. Soft and forgiving, people are finding many of them cast like nice bamboo without the fear of breakage. Find an old Fenwick and you've got something special for dirt cheap.

Find an old Fenwick and you've got something special for dirt cheap. The Fenwick HMG series in the early days was little stiffer than glass and they are some of the easiest casting rods I have used. An 8.5' 6wt remains my favorite rod over 30 years later.
