Does anyone have this reticle in their Leupold scope? If so I'd like to know how you like it versus the regular Duplex. Specifically, are the posts heavier and easier to see in low light? I'm thinking about ordering a VX-3 from the custom shop with this reticle. Thanks.

I ordered a VX2 3x9 with the P&D reticle last year. The thin (center) section is almost as thick as a heavy duplex and the thick part (posts) are between the standard and heavy duplex in thickness. The center area between the posts is closer than a heavy duplex. I really like the reticle. It works well on a dim day. I would not recommend one for night hunting but for that you would be better off with an illuminated reticle.

Thanks Dave. I think I'll opt for this reticle when I order the VX-3.

Post & duplex reticle. VX-2 3x9x40mm. Magnification set at 3x. Trees are about 20 yards from window. Picture isn't the best. Dave

I always like a tapered post and crosshair. Nothing beats it for a quick shot. For a longer distange I like a post and duplex but the tapered post is my favorite

Picture through scope looks like a Realtree camo pattern. I do like the post and duplex.

Almost as heavy as the Heavy Duplex, but not as cluttered feeling as the HD. Shows up in any light. Actially better than my Premier Reticles 4a at night. E

DH,

I have that reticle in a Leupy 3x, and love it. It's best in lo light, and shooting groups with it is no problem.

I have one in a Leupy 3x that is mounted on a Marlin 45-70.

It is a good choice for shooting game and works fine on paper.

It is less visible and less distracting than the heavy duplex.

A pretty good compromise for most hunting situations at reasonable ranges.

leupold told me that the post and duplex mirros the subtensions of the duplex minus the 12 o'clock post. The measurement they gave me were exactly the same as the standard duplex which isnt coinciding with what was said here????

my favorite reticle currently is:
zeiss 3-9x40 z-plex

3x-9x @ 100 yards in inch
opening.... posts ... x-hairs
24- 8 .... 4-1,3 ... 0,7-0,2

the leup 3.5-10x P&D (same as duplex minus top post according to leup)

16.1-5.4 .... 2.1-0.7 .... 0.7-0.2

i like the smaller opening but the posts are half the size??

E,
You ever decide to sell that scope with the Premier 4a in it, shoot me a PM. I've got that reticle in a VXII 2-7x33 residing on top of my Omega muzzleloader and absolutely love it...

I called leupold today and while the xt duplex may be the answer for lots of us it is only available on the xl7 or x7 scopes what ever they are

the guy I talked to also confirmed that the post and duplex is basically the std duplex less the 12oclock post

I am really torn I have a mark 4 to send in it currently has a fine duplex. I have two vari x 3 3.5-10 with std duplex and they are OK but not great.

In a perfect world I would get the heavy duplex without the 12 o clock post and the german 4 is heavy yet very fine in the middle

Right now I am trying to decide between the heavy duplex and the post and duplex I feel my only 2 options

P&D is the way to go for hunting. Though the HD isn't a problem either, but it is more cluttered feeling.

I felt the clutter feeling and I like heavier than normal reticles

As I said before I felt cluttered when I looked through the HD not heavy enough with the std duplex and the #4 was just ok

I think I will roll the dice and try the post and duplex it will be better than the fine that I have now!

When I called Leupold's customer service and talked to a rep. I asked what is the subtention of the post & duplex compared to the heavy duplex. I was told the center is almost as thick as a heavy duplex and the posts between the heavy duplex and a standard duplex in thickness. The post spacing is closer with the post & duplex. Maybe they have been changed but my post & duplex reticle in my VX II 3x9 is thicker than a standard duplex. My son has a post & duplex in his vari X III 2.5x8 and it's thicker than a standard duplex. The heavy duplex is not too thick in reality. You can hit fifty cent piece (or a bit smaller) size targets at 211 yards with a 6x42 with a heavy duplex reticle. My son and I have done it and I'm not a great shot. Dogzapper has a heavy duplex in his 3.5x10x40 on his pet .280AI.
