I use a Williams FP, but other reputable options are XS and Brockman's.

A receiver sight is a huge improvement over what the factory installed on the rifle.

Skinner sights have a good reputation on the Marlin Owners site.

I' using the Williams 5D on mine. It is about 1/2 the price of the FP, but no click adjustment. Normally I'll spring the extra for the FP, but on these rifles I don't expect to be changing the sight settings often. On my 336A with the 24" barrel i needed a taller front sight. I put on the Brockman's patridge and love it. This is just a blade, not the whole assembly with wings. My 336CS didn't need a taller sight.

I have a Skinner set and vintage Lyman sets on 336's. You can order the Skinner with a taller front sight and I have found that the Lymans need a taller front bead replacement (easy installation).

By "vintage", I am referring to the earlier steel frame Lyman sight. The configuration and function of the current production Lymans are the same, but the frame is aluminum. That said, I have one of the aluminum models and it functions fine. Its just a vanity thing with me.

Another personal opinion: I've tried tang sights on 336's and have not been happy with the results.

You cant' go wrong with a Williams FP, older Lyman, Skinner or XS sight. Any will be a vast improvement over factory sights. I usually replace the front sight with a Redfield sourdough patridge front sight if I can find one. If not, I like Marbles 1/16" ivory bead front sights. I used to love the fiberoptic sights, but have found them to be fragile and too bright in strong sunlight. I would also stay away from the recent manufacture Lyman sights. They are basically junk. After the fourth lemon I bought in about two years I gave up on them.

I on a Williams WGRS rear, and an XS front with the white stripe .4" tall. Very unobtrusive, and accurate. I've been known to just remove the center aperture for hunting the thick stuff. (Be careful not to misplace the aperture - mine vibrated out in my pickup & I had the dickens finding the little booger)

Absolutely. I have the foolproof on my 36 and the XS on a Win 94. Both are very good and a vast improvement over factory sights.

Nothing is fool proof for a sufficiently talented fool !!

Williams on my old carbine. Works fine, didn't cost an arm and a leg. Once it was throwin' lead where I wanted it to, haven't touched the sight since.
