Is there any problem with lighting off Triple Seven with #11 Magnums? Coulda sworn it used to say that Triple Seven was designed for use with 209 primers, but can't find it saying anything about that on Hodgdon's website. Always used Pyrodex before this. Waste of time? Misfire waiting to happen? Stick with the tried and true? Or go for it?

Not a problem for me. Pyrodex RS was a bit hard to light at times, but since I went to 777 - no problems.

When I used 777, #11 caps worked just fine for me. Musket caps work well with it too. I liked 777, but I like black powder better.

I tried all the substitutes and went back to Goex. The only substitute I use is Pyrodex pellets in my Omega, but for percussion or flints, Goex only.

Depends on the rifle. In-line, no problem with anything.
Sidelock, I have had some issues with hangfires using 777. Went to fffg and when I load, I put in aprox 10-15 gr first, then bump the gun letting gravity move some 777 into the sidelock area. That plus using #11 magnums, and I haven't had any hangfires since.

If using loose 777 powder, #11 caps are just fine. If using 777 pellets, 209 primers are recommended. 209 primers are recommended for BH209 powder as well.

I had my Lyman GPH re-drilled and tapped to fit a hot shot musket nipple. That with RWS Musket caps = BANG or BOOM every time..... unless wet. I like the idea of driblling a touch of 4f into the mixture at the base. Maybe if loading for the day's hunt right through the nipple hole so as to get it where it is most needed. 1/2gr of Bullseye right at the nipple hole, anyone?

I must confess that for hunting, after loading I remove the nipple and dribble a few grains of 777 in the back and then replace the nipple. Never had a misfire in the field.
