The boys had a B-day party to attend and the girls went shopping so I decided to bust a few primers at the range. Took the 7 mag, the .45/70 and a new toy you know, some tried and true and something new, makes for fun times.
At the range was one other single shooter and at another table 3 guys that appeared to be early to mid 20's, man did they have an arsenal laid out. They took up the middle aisle the only one that was snowplowed and had there tarp spread out over it. Oh well early bird gets the best spot. As I was heading back down the range in that middle aisle I noticed one of the young men laying prone fiddling with his scope on his bipod affixed AK-47 clone. Never have cared much to see someone looking my direction through a scope. So as I got within striking distance I politely told the kid I wasn't trying to be an [bleep] but it is considered VERY BAD form to be fiddling with your weapon with folks downrange. He responded with respect and apologized, I accepted and told him we all have to learn. Turns out they seemed like pretty decent kids, but don't know how they have acquired the collection they were sporting, but they did have a new S&W 500 and after I let them pop off a few rounds of my sundries they invited me to give it a twirl. She's got some snort, the model they had looked to be an 8 3/8 bbl. but it looked like the muzzle brake could be removed, but they didn't know if it could or not. It had a decent SA trigger for a new piece but you didn't have to guess when it let off. Not sure it would be much fun in a 4 inch version and don't think a guy would burn through a box of 50 with theirs without shooting gloves. They did a little genuflecting after I blew up a couple of OJ jugs at 200 from a sitting position, if they only knew what ranges some of you guys reach out and touch was all I could think of! Anyway doubt I'll need a 500, but glad I got to shoot it and always fun to take my 7 and buc through the paces. New toy was ok but need to get more serious with gridded targets at 50 & 100 yards. About 6 degrees out and calm made for good shooting conditions. 1ak

1ak, Before you plunk down hard earned for a 500 be sure to evaluate the new 460 S&W. It looks like a handgunners dream gun. Will shoot 45LC's, Casulls and the new 460 Smith. I have a 500 and love it but the 460 may suit my needs better. Budgeting as we speak!

I would probably spring for the 4" Smith if I didn't already have this piece, which pretty well has all my large-game needs covered... 500 Linebaugh on a Redhawk, built by David Clements. 440's at 1300 are, well, fun out of this piece; I am taking a real liking to 500 grain slugs at about 1150. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Mark

That's the best looking Redhawk I've ever seen! They have a good rep, just never cared for how they looked, but yours is nice. 1ak
