I know most of you still have a long wait till deer season rolls around.
I always enjoy seeing photos of campfire member's hunting country.
I've been bow hunting since mid July.
Rifle season opened on August 14th.

Been warm, but I've passed on 17 bucks since last Saturday.
I think August is the toughest month of all to find bucks, September is gonna be sweet.

Just a few pics....

Lots of looking...

Only two kinds of country.
Steep & deep.

Maiden voyage for the gifted Vanguard in .257 Wby, the kid's 7mm-08 is lethal on these Blacktail bucks.

Long walk out....

Not enough of these...

Too many of these...

About a four footer...

Both of us are seeing bucks, just not the right ones.
Still lots of hunting to do.
Saving the best for last.

Dang, you're a lot further south than I'd figured. Good on you and the boy on both seeing bucks, and holding out for better ones.

Almost two months before our archery season opens!

Nice job on the pics. Looking forward to the "rest" of the story.

Thanks Scott.
That is pretty much my backyard.
Some of my Cali deer hunting pics that you see on the fire are taken in B zone also, the Trinity Alps to be more particular (another steep nasty SOB}.
I do quote a bit of fishing up that way too.
When bear season opens, I head to the Sierras toward the Nevada border.
Come winter, I spend a bunch of time on a friend's ranch in the north eastern corner of the state in Alturas hunting coyotes.

Very nice Sir and the lad looks very competent.

I have absolutely no desire to ever visit California, except to do that right there. I would love to hunt the early high country season someday for a blacktail. It's on my bucket list.

Is that public ground you are on? Do you need to draw tags?

They say everything happens for a reason.
For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

Looks like a ton of fun Salmonella! Hell of a way to punch a tag.
