The passage in Sharpe that you reproduced referred to the Remington 30, not the 30S as being available in the Remington series of calibers.
The two paragraphs are quoted in their entirety, and provide the only reference to calibers in the Remington 30 article. Read it for yourself and interpret accordingly.
I did, and have. Also, Remington's site reports only that the 30 Remington was offered as a caliber, not in which variations it was offered. Truth be told, I don't care whether this rifle is a rarity or not. I included the reference to Sharpe and Crossman simply because those were the references I had on hand.
