Enjoyed seeing your "Hey Obama" signature from Brookings. Should be an interesting November. grin

About the same ammunition-wise here in Sisseton except I don't remember seeing .300 Mag. So it's an hour to Watertown where Kampeska Lodge has a good selection though it may have been on the shelf a while. Dunham's isn't bad either.

I have to agree with the shop owner, on the odd occasion I've been asked I've recommended the locally common calibers. Too often I've seen people have to borrow shells (rifle and shotgun), particularly west where the closest ammo stop was a gas station.

Which explains a lot.

I did notice recently at the local wally world, they had all the standby cartridges, 243,222,223,25-06,270,7-08,308,30-06, 7mag,22-250. The interesting thing was they had all the WSM cartridges. But no 7x57, 35whelen, 257R, 260, 6.5x55 etc. The federal cartridges were priced just under $14.00 per box.

There is no accounting for taste.

Experience is a great thing as long as one survives it.

Generally, there ain't a lot that separates the two however,
Barely making it is a whole lot more satisfying than barely not making it.

Do it. You and the boy will have another lifetime hobby together and that worry about "expensive" 7-08 will evaporate. Of course, you'll shoot more too. grin

Start roaming the auction and classified sites and you can be into reloading in short order for less than the price of 10 boxes of ammo.

That is an interesting cartridge. I'll bet it would be the ticket for shooting birds on the catfish ponds.

It was very good for that but I retired from that line of work... smile

I've met a few veteran hunters that thought the same. They never read a gun mag, but it didn't seem to slow down their hunting ability one bit.

They would make a box (20) of shells last a few years, too.

150 gr for deer, 180 gr for elk. Because elk are bigger. It isn't my style, but I try not to argue with success.
