I picked up a weaver base and a set of "med" Millett rings for a Marlin 336 SC in 30-30. After mounting the scope I found my self looking into the bottom half of the Weaver 2X-7X rear eye piece. How low do you have to go to see directly into the eyepiece or is it just me. Doc

Doc, I have medium height Weaver Grand Slam windage rings (#49318) mounted on two Weaver Aluminum bases (#48471) and one of the new Redfield 2-7 scopes mounted on my 1979 vintage M336 - lines up perfectly for me. Do you have a short neck? I am tall and have a tall neck, that could be the difference.

Odess,
No, I am 6'1". I had it all mounted and then had to take it apart. The 336 SC was made in 1953 which may have more drop in the stock than the later rifles.

Doc,
A couple of options: 1-Try Weaver "low" rings. 2-Take foam rubber (old mouse pad works too!!) and build up the comb.
Top mounted scopes work against a low mount unless the stock has been constructed for the required additional comb height.

Try the Warne 1 piece base and Weaver low rings. That is the lowest setup I know of. In fact, it may be too low for a 33mm objective scope. If you want to go as low as possible you may have to go with a straight tube or 28 mm objective.
Always remember that you are unique, just like everyone else.

Greg, I'd try some different mounts on your old 336... I use Leupold Bases and rings on my 30/30 Stainless and a 2 x 7 Weaver Rimfire Scope ( an older model, but Weaver customer service told me that they were built to stand up on Air Rifles..and are more than tough enough to mount on a 30/06..)

Doc, have worked on marlins for 30 plus years, not pretty but weaver 1 piece base, and weaver low mount rings will handle up to 33-36 objective, may have to remove rear sight

I used Warne Maxima two piece bases and low mount rings on mine, with a new Redfield 2-7x33 and it worked out fine. I did remove the rear sight.

Do you mean with the same cheek weld as with irons? If so, that can't be done. At their lowest, the center line of scopes is at least a half inch higher than factory irons.

I have a mid 70's 336 35rem that has this Weaver base and ring setup with an old Redfield 4X Wideview. I'm 6'6" and have no problem looking right down the center of the setup.

I have a 1982 vintage 336 and I'm wondering what is the length of pull on your rifle? Mine is 13 inches and find it go be right at the limit of acceptability. Yours looks a bit longer- 14 plus and mine doesn't have a gold trigger.

Just measured it for you; 13-1/4" from the center of the gold trigger to the center of the buttplate.

Guys,
Are there any weaver type 2 piece mounts that have the double slots on them? I can't find any online that fit the 336. I'm mounting a 20mm redfield and need to move the ring forward for the short barrel Is there a leupold version that may be for another gun that has the double slots that will also go on the flat top 336?

I don't know what you expect to hear, they are excellent quality, simple, strong, and sleek enough, look good, and work very well. The Talley is my first choice every time when a model is available for the rifle at hand. About what you would expect I think?
