Nothing more fun than fishing a new stretch of river near home. I had floated one in a canoe before, but didn't know how to get access to that spot by foot until recently. It was reported to be good for walleyes.
Casual, carefree fishing. A pair of shorts, tennis shoes, and into the river I went. Drifting a live minnow on an ultralight rod spooled with 4 pound test line, enjoying the cool water running past my legs.
Ended up catching two real nice smallmouth (catch and release), and lost another fish. My dad lost one as well.
All too soon though it was getting dark, so time to come home.
Catching those fish on that ultralight rod, standing bare skinned and knee deep in the water, enjoying the cooler weather.... this is my time of year....
