Vintage. I like that.

I fished the opener last year for the first time since 1999. But I waited until 3 in the afternoon. I had the lake to myself, literally, because it was so cold and windy. I think everyone else was beat up and went home for the day.

I may go up to Leach this year with a group from work on the opener. There might be beer.

As one of the old North Stars likes to say: "Hockey without beer is like sex without a woman, you can do it, but it isn't right."

I would think that the same applies to fishing.....

I was at the St. Paul Sports show today. I'm glad I didn't have to pay to get in, but I'm glad I went...if that makes any sense.

I did get a hellova price on an Alumacraft Classic 165 CS and a pretty good price on an Alumacraft Competitor 165 CS.

Lots more money. I could buy a hellova used boat for the price of the Competitor rigged the way I need it.

The Classic is the best deal going of all the boats I even looked at. The Competitor is 3" wider and 2" longer. It has center rod storage. Other than that there isn't a bunch of difference. It comes with fewer seats, no spare tires, etc...

I found two Pro-V 1775's that I like. One I'm going to look at next weekend up near Duluth. One is in St. Cloud

There are also two Ranger 617's that I like. Ma would approve of those as well, which smooths things over better.

I'm pretty good at it myself Bill. Thing is with the Classic, I can get it rigged up and ready to go, out the door price for the starting price on the Competitor.

The good deals on the used rigs will start showing up now.

I did see a new Ranger 620 for the bargin basement price of $72,000.

We're getting closer up here to having ice I'm willing to venture out on.

A chainsaw will knock those ice chunks down in no time flat. That is of course if you're out of dynamite.

Oh sure. The guys with the Bombardiers are full of advice.

Trouble with the saw is that there used to be a big sawmill right where my house sits. They pumped sawdust into the lake for 30 years. That, mixed with a little sand is churned up in the ice. I suspect I'd better put on old chain before I start.....

yeah, I talked about that bear on my camera back during rifle season I think. I just got around to taking the camera down last night. Pam and I drove out to camp to chack on the cabin so I walked out to my stand and took the truthcam down.

I had over 400 pictures and my batteries were still ok.

I got a lot of deer pictures, mostly does and fawns but a couple of little bucks too.

We were very surprised at the overall lack of tracks down the driveway, no deer or wolf. We fully expected to see a lot of wolf tracks.

Once I got out in the swamp I started seeing deer tracks, lots of tracks in front of my camera where I have salt and mineral blocks out.

I'm impressed with the battery life on those truf cam's. I have mine up in the yard aimed at the bird feeder the deer clean out everyday. I get 100's of pictures a week of stuff that likes bird feeders and the batteries are still at 45%. It's been there since October.
