Does anybody know the barrel contour/size difference between a CDL fluted barrel in a 30-06 and an LSS barrel (NOT LSS Mountain) in a 30-06?

I do believe the LSS is a standard sporter. How about the CDL fluted (the box says CDL fluted, not CDL SF).

Thanks!

I am 99.9% sure the contour is the same just fluted but dont hold me to it.

I have seen some cdl fluted non SF but not a 30.06 however I wouldnt be surprised.

there were definately 257 wby 264win 300win that I have actually seen

Actually, I think the fluted CDL barrels are a magnum contour and the LSS barrels are standard sporter contour.

Correct. Some spec run CDLs were made exactly like the CDL SF models, but blued.

Hmmm. I just called Remington, two times, and was told both times by separate people that both are standard sporters. I was hoping you guys were correct in the CDL fluted being a magnum contour.

Hey biglmbass, I just changed my post above to reflect a second call. I just got off the phone with them again to see if I would be told the same thing by a different person, and I was. Both guys said both barrels are standard sporters. I pushed on the CDL stainless fluted, NON SF, and he insisted that a magnum contour would not be used on a 30-06.

I had a feeling you guys would tell me they are wrong.

But yet they built both 270 Win & 30-06 CDL SF models with mag contour barrels.

I think the trick is to provide them with the 5 digit "order no." from the box end label and ask what barrel contour said rifle was manufactured with. In a perfect world it shouldn't be that hard to speak with someone @ Rem knowledgeable about their product line, but yet I've had problems with them as well.

Just did that and he said it came with a standard long action stock, hence, the standard barrel contour.

You guys were right which is what I expected!!! That's why I wrote their customer service department imploring them to tell me with 100% certainty, as three other of their "customer service/technical employees" were unable to do so. Well, I heard from "Daniel" today telling me that "with 100% certainty the barrel IS INDEED a magnum contour barrel." He said it is not normal for a 30-06 to be a magnum contour, but that that it is done due to the fluting.

Not bad huh? 1 out of 4 Remington "technicians" got it right. GMAFB!!!

Thanks for the help guys!

I take no pleasue in being right. However, it took all I could do not to reply to your post on the 15th again telling you that they told you wrong. Know that I've dealt with their customer svc also and I feel your pain.

Glad you got it all worked out now.
