ttpoz Campfire Regular Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 634 Wyoming	Back in the '80's I got addicted to Thompson Center Contenders and had a carbine barrel made in 45-70. I read everything I could get my hands on in terms of reloading data and bullet suggestions. JD Jones of SSK Industries was a big proponent of the Speer 400 gr in his Hand Cannons. He was shooting elephants with this bullet if memory serves. I shot an elk with one. If you wanna kill something that walks on planet earth, a .458 Speer 400 grain will kill it out of a 45-70. There may be even better choices now but this one will work. ttpoz in silvam ne ligna feras (don't carry logs into the forest)
