He has a lot of practice to do, and should have started months ago, but his late start was due to my illness. A buddy of mine asked me to build him a long range huntiing rifle during last years hunting season. I ordered parts expecting to have him shooting by April or May. Things did not work out since I was sick much of that time. I finally got caught up and got on his build. Here are the specs on his new 300WSM.
Trued Rem 700 SA, bolt spiral fluted by Kampfeld Customs.
Kreiger .30 cal 10 T sendero taper spiral fluted by Kampfeld Customs.
Mcmillan thumbhole stock.
Wyatts extemded mag box.
Jewell trigger.
Seekins 20 MOA base, NXS rings and topped with a zeiss victory 6x24.

I broke the barreled action out of the bedding Thursday night and got it all assembled. My buddy showed up Friday morning to break in the barrel and work up a load. There was not much load devolopment. I just stuck 72grs of vv560 in new cases and seated a 168 berger on top. We fired 4 rounds cleaning between shots. We only got copper after the first shot, otherwise just powder fouling. For the 5th shot I took a WAG on dialing him up to hit my 600 yard steel. First shot from a clean barrel fairly hit dead center. I gave him 3 more loaded rounds and had him send them downrange. He totally ignored the wind, but it turned out pretty well. Now before anyone starts, I will be mentoring him this year since we are in the same hunting camp. I will probably spot for him when he hunts the few long range stands that are available on out lease.






He is pretty excited. He downloaded some ballistic software, is buying a good range finder and will start some intensive practice very soon. Next year the longrange deer better watch out.
