I just picked up a Marlin model 1894 yesterday. It's a 44-40, engraved, 30 inch barrel,& made in 1894. What can you tell me about this rifle.

What is the first couple of digits in the serial number?

According to the first two digits, your gun should have been made in 2002.

Maybe consider a nice slug gun. With the right set up and practice you could have a whalloping 150 yd slugger.Looks like it should do fine at 100 yards. Or course, you'll maybe lose some accuracy just because of iron sights and 100 being farther away to see than 25 . But the gun itself appears to have darn good accuracy.
