Doug recommended this camera to me and it's been AWESOME ++ but now we need to find a replacement. I've wanted a SLR for a long time but I don't think we could live without a point-and-shoot so I'm going to replace this one first.
My first thought is to just get another Olympus Stylus because this one has served us so well but I wanted to put this post out here in case there are other offerings today that would be a better option.
Here's my criteria:
1- Nice pics for a variety of applications (family stuff, sports, scenery and waterproof is a BIG plus) 2- Durable (this camera will take plenty of abuse) 3- Easy operation
Any new recommendations??

I'm a semi-recent convert to the digital SLR world, but for an all around point-and-shoot I really like the super zoom category. I had a Canon SX10IS and it handled a bunch of situations, and handled them well. Close, far, it didn't matter. If you want weatherproof though, I not much help there. I know there are some point and shoots now you can drop in water and they will be fine, but they don't have the reach or versatility of a super zoom. Maybe you do a combo - a superzoom with a pocket beater for those demanding times. Or, maybe it's time to jump to SLR and one of those sealed up Olympus rigs.?.?

No problem...but now you'll find that SX10IS went to a 20, and now the latest is the SX30IS. Sure looks like a nice machine.

As nice as the Canon SX series is, they are the furthest thing from durable. I would go with the Pentax W90. It has gotten great reviews. Is water and drop prrof. It has a 5x zoom and there is no delay. Call me if I can be of any help
