Bought 38-55 26" bbl marked spec smokeless steel pat Oct 11,1887,April 2,1889, August 1,1893. want to mount on Model 93 inplace of current shot out 30-30. everything looked great until noticed thread for receiver was 1 1/4" and current 30-30 is 3/4". Smokeless wasn't marked until 1904 and 38-55 was only for Mdls 1891,1889,1893, and Mdl 1893 was changed to M93 in 1905 so has to be for the Model 93 or last yr of 1893. Thinking of bushing the extra thread vrs rechamber, pls advise, is this takedown barrel??

Hello,
Hope this helps. I have several 1893's made after 1905 that are marked "1893" and "Special Smokeless Steel" was put on barrels before 1904. As great as Brophy's book is, it has errors. Your barrel certainly could be a takedown. Do you need a round barrel or octagonal? What condition is your barrel? I may be able to trade.

Thanks, Pete
