......Aside from Remy`s screw up, here are a few reasons imo, why the 280 Rem is less popular.

270 Win, 270 WSM, 7/mm08, 7x57, 7mm Rem Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, 7mm Rem Mag,,,,and,,,,the 7mm Rem Mag. Plus add on the popularity of the shorter actioned rifles.

From a ballistic standpoint, I wouldn`t consider the 280 Remy to be superior to the 270 WSM, and certainly not the 7mm Rem Mag. The 7x57 isn`t lagging that far behind, while the 7/08 is right on its heels.

Shoot a deer with any of them and the result is the same. Recoil is the same. Weight of the gun is the same. .270 & .30-06 ammo is $14.50 a box with a $2.50 rebate.

.280 ammo is hard to find and cost twice as much.

Folks with a clue, don't set the stage for popularity.

Most can't connect them dots...................

The only thing that remains the same,is how very little you know or have done and how eager you are to prove same.

Congratulations?...............

Some of us don't fret over what ammo cost because we don't buy factory schit. There are 3 280s in my house and the 7s are tough act to follow. Some of us do shoot more than little and at ranges of greater than 50 yards.

Handload and don't fret the cost, if you are worried about the $2.50 rebate then I think its time to sell your guns and retire from huntin'

Biggest diff between most .270s & .280s is twist. My unproven & unsubstantiated theory is Winchester purposely went with odd caliber & 1:10 to limit to 150-grain or less and ensure high velocity for marketing purposes (i.e. .284 already had heavier bullets available).

That it does wink

22 years ago my bride and I were in one of the city gun shops that had all of the Mountain Rifles in stock and I wanted a 270 in the worst way but couldn't swing it. The local shop had one in 280 and she got for me for Christmas, I've been thanking her ever since grin

I do handload, but I want a rifle I can buy ammo for if I need to.

I also prefer to buy factory ammo and shoot it for the brass.

At a net cost of $12/box for loaded ammo, you are indeed coming out pretty good if you harvest the brass... if you like that brass anyway.

I know it's hard to understand, but you can shoot the ammo and when you open the bolt out pops an empty case that you can reload.
