Has Marlin's quality improved, stayed the same, or declined since it moved from Conn.? I've had a 336 since 1977 (30/30)and I love it. It just fits me and I shoot it very well. I am considering buying a .35 to leave to my son, and was just wondering if the new Marlins measure up to the older ones. Just wondering? They sure do look really good.

From what I've been seeing and reading definately declined since bought by Remington/Cerebus.
I wouldn't buy any Marlin made after 2008

The New Haven operation was moved to Ilion NY for the centerfire Marlins and Kentucky for the 22's.

Have any Ilion made Marlins gotten out to stores yet? I knew they were moving this spring/early summer but never heard when they actually started production.

I didn't realize they had been bought. I purchased a 336 XLR in .444 in December '08. I have taken a few whitetail with it and couldn't be happier with how the gun handles. The only thing I've noticed is a small amount of trigger creep. But as far as quality is concerned, I have not noticed any issues. That being said, it could be one that was manufactured prior to the buy-out.

I wouldn't buy any Marlin made after 2008 I'm hard pressed to believe someone would make a blanket statement like that with out any back up or examples. Would you care to make your case for that comment?

I work at a gun shop part time and personally seen LOTS of quality issues with nearly all 2009 to present models of lever Marlins.
Failures to feed right out of the box, misfit stocks and forearms, misaligned barrel to receiver, broken ejectors, etc etc.
For additional info go to Marlinowners.com and read away.....

yeah, there's a whole subforum on marlinowners dedicated to the new Marlin manufacturing issues, and many, many threads and pictures of bad QC issues on the newer rifles.

Bought my last new Marlin in early 2008 - as perfect a M1895 as I could have hoped for - based on what I am hearing/reading, glad I bought then and didn't wait.
