I like the 24 cal and have rifles chambered in 243, 6mm and 240 Wby. The 243 has a 1&9 , 6mm 1&12 and the 240 Wby 1&10. So I'm covered all the way round.
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

I tried 105 bergers, they wouldn't shoot. I would assume that a 105 a-max would be a no go if it won't shoot the bergers. Anyone ever try the 95 grain bergers? In reloading you can never assume anything. I once saw .008 make the difference between 2" groups vs. 1/4" groups.

I run the Berger 95 VLDs in my Ruger No.1V (1x9 twist)with sub-MOA accuracy. I've killed two deer with it, a doe at about 15-80yds, a buck at about 200. No bullets recovered, and exits on both. Killing ain't very hard..................... Without a doubt, one of the best pics you've ever put up, and not too shabby all-'round, either.

Moments before my 400 yd kill, I dropped another w/a spine shot at 200 yds. Remember, my 6 BR had an MV of 2,850.
The bullet VAPORIZED w/in 1-2" - User beware the 105 Amax will not penetrate much @ high impact fps. I managed to stick a 105 A-max between the eyes on a 335lb mule deer at 60 yards this year. MV was 3250fps. Bullet exited, and left nothing but air behind. The A-max is the sh&t. No doubts. R.
You can run, but you'll just die tired.

FWIW, I nigh cut a fox in half - hit broadside thru gut - on the run about 100 yds, 30 minutes from a yote stopping one broadside at 60 yds, DRT. Headshot 45 yds - doe, yote, headshot, 176 LRF, Bobcat 168 LRF - caught from rear angling away, left a NICKEL exit on opposite shoulder, perfect energy dump, NICE mount. No doubt Stick, killing ain't hard, just have to hit them where bullet exiting will reach vitals. One morning decided to hunt w/#1 RSI, but last sighted w/70TNTs, so that's what I chambered. Doe - 47 yds, yeah, my buddy HAD to LRF it, took one thru neck, damn near tore her head off, hide was the only thing keeping it on. 3500 mv. Another TNT thru lungs, doe, broadside, 200 yds, 6BR 3400mv, quick run, hit brakes, then dropped dead w/in 60 yds. I have killed w/cup core, target/varmint bullets, and used a Barnes on a Hog - https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...ger_1_International_Who_has_#Post3091822I had always wondered how they'd act, so I put one in the chamber and got my first hog, I was pleased. 75 AMAX and 53/62 TSX are good ones in 22 cal and what I'd be using. Below, all 105, 2850 MV, 6BR 8 twist, Ruger #1 26" Pac-Nor 3 Groove Poly SM 1V contour, Kepplinger 8 oz set. OH, the best Long range group I ever fired past 200 yds, was with the above #1 Ruger.
One a.m. on a cool calm day, alone at range w/no howitzer rifles pounding my ears and shaking the table, I fired 3 105 Amax's at 330 yds using a 4-16x40 4200.
Group measured just UNDER 1/2", .49x Ctc.
Who says a Falling Block won't shoot? Or a Ruger? LOL.
*** Did you notice how that Yote above was 'Laffin'....

Thanks guys, looks like I'll start with the a-max and 95 berger. I pulled the gun out last night and looked at the barrel markings again. In addition to the cloverleaf mark, there are the letters M.A.C. stamped below it. Any ideas on the barrel maker? You've got a Mark Chanlynn barrel. One of the finest cut rifled barrels made (in my opinion).

Amen to that Kodiak! My 338/06 barrel is one of Marks and it's a total rock star!

Kodiak-Thanks you solved a mystery for me. I picked this gun up from the widow of a gunsmith. I never knew the make on the barrel. I was actually at one point going to switch the barrel out and jump up to a 6.5 of some flavor. I have never had much faith in 6mm's, I don't like to track. But it sounds like I should give it a chance, it should make a good deer/dog rifle.
