I have a straight-stocked Marlin 336 in .30-30 made in 1966 (AB serial number). Bad pic but here it is...

[Linked Image]

Whoever owned it before took the time to set it up right. It came with an old Williams peep sight, the original rear sight removed and replaced with a dovetail blank.

From traces on the bluing it apparently had a saddle ring at one time, this too has been removed. From browsing this and other boards I would guess I have the "Texan" version.

But the 20" barrel is stamped "336 RC". Were "Texan" versions stamped "336 T" ?

Also, as a point of interest it has the rounded rather than stamped lever, what year did they transition to a square lever?

Thanks,

Birdwatcher

Seek and ye shall find... in this case over on the Marlin Owner's forum cool

http://www.marlinowners.com/forums/index.php/topic,59739.0.html

In 1951 Marlin introduced the Texan. It differed from the "rifle" in that it had the carbine stock.

none were marked with a T until the Glenfield GT, then the TS. RC would have been the correct barrel marking for a Texan from the 60's.

God bless the internet.
