I was gonna post some of this on the Ruger Scout Thread, but it got bombed. I started with an SMLE Jungle Carbine Remake from Gibbs: http://www.gibbsrifle.com/historical_remakes.htmlIt was a really good item, but ammo was harder to find than I would have liked. (might be easier near the CANADIAN border). The I went to the Savage SCout: http://www.steyrscout.org/savscout.htmThis was a very good rendition of the scout, not as "handy." The I went to a BLR scout: Still, its a big rifle for daily use. Then I biult the 1894 44 mag "scout" (not a true scout due to chambering) I like the 1894 the best, a 30-30 is probably "best" as a compromise. BMT

What receiver site are you using on the BLR? The barrel mounted front site kept me from using the scope I wanted to on my BLR. The one you have looks interesting...........DJ

The one you have looks interesting...........DJ Williams Foolproff (for the Model 71 Winchester, IIRC). My gunsmith drilled and tapped the receiver. Sweet Rif. But 308 is too powerful for shooting east and west around here (houses). BMT

Dude, how do you keep from messing up your face with the butt ammo sleeves on the wrong side like that?

The 44 is a nice looking rig but curious if you carry that many rounds plus a full magazine with it? I'm thinking that might make it a touch heavy for a comfortable carry. But you DO have the cartridge carrier on the correct side of the buttstock as far as I'm concerned.

If it gets out of the truck/shop/etc I load it up. BMT

Thoughts on something like the little CZ527 in 7.62x39 "scouted"?

Rather than full on Scout the CZ, I'd mount a short red dot on the front action bridge and call it good. Or, in the alternative, drive out the dovetailed rear sight (and put a receiver sight on the rear bridge) then have a 'smith put together a section of rail that would affix to the front bridge after being slid into the dovetail. That way you wouldn't have to permanently alter the gun in order to get the scout setup.

Exactly the latter option.
Easily w/n weight and length specs, sights set-up nicely to suit criteria, power is on the light end, but handloads with 150s and 174s put it very close to, or fully, there.
All that'd be missing would be the stripper feed capability, and I'd guess that could be remedied using AK/SKS strippers and the CZ detachable mags.

Thoughts on something like the little CZ527 in 7.62x39 "scouted"? viable option. Red dot wiuld be cool. COOPER designed a battle rifle which is cool but tough to put to daily use unless you live in the wide open arizona/utah/wy/NV/ID desert. I went with the matched handgun/rifle cartridge systme of the late 1800s. BMT

Its hard to carry a rifle everywhere. Also, a non-army looks gets more deference in rural areas, Even in Eastern Or, Black rifles have a bad rap as "city folk" put use 'em to holes in irrigation pipes, etc. BMT

On a more serious note, is the BLR a takedown model?
