.
Saw a 10 gauge Spanish-made Zephyr sidelock shotgun in a store today.
Asked if the sidelocks were fake on a boxlock and was assured that it was a true sidelock.
32 inch barrels choked Full/Full.
Has been shot little to none. Looked excellent.
Think this would make a good gun for pen-raised pheasants or sporting clays ?
The gun dealer assured me it wouldn't have whispy barrels like some 12 gauges.
How much would be too much to pay for such a gun ?
Same store had one of those new-fangled 28 gauge Benelli Legacy autoloading shotguns too.
They said they could make a package deal.

They have been written about quite a bit. I stared at one in a local shop for almost a year. When I got the dollars up to buy it for goose hunting it was gone.
I bought its step sister the Churchill boxlock in 32 inch barrels and it is a heavy piece. But is deadly on fast crossing shots and over head. Those barrels cant be stopped mid swing without a serious input from the driver. Awesome fun from a layout boat.
Sherman Bell mentioned them and so does the Fackler manual on the 10 ga.
I used to only shoot shotguns and rimfires, then I made the mistake of getting a subscription to handloader.......

Those are pretty well made guns, by Victor Sarasqueta. I have had a few Sarasqueta sidelocks and they all were fine. Used to be darn cheap and still are usually a pretty good deal. Even made some double rifles, one I kick myslf for not buying 10 or so years ago.

I had one of the VS 20 ga boxlocks for a while, decent gun but didn't fit me. That tight bored 10 would blow preserve birds to blood-spotted feathers unless they were about 50 yards out. You could shoot sporting with it with 12 ga chamber inserts and spreader loads when needed, and it just might do pretty well. Just how much does that thing weigh?
