Got to to test some .45 ACP loads with Ramshot's Silouette powder the morning. I'm very impressed with it.
The loads were assembled from new Starline brass, Winchester WLP primers and Hornady's 200 gr. XTP bullet. COL was just a hair under 1.24 inches.
The first load, at 7 grs. shot a 3 1/4 inch group at 25 yds. Not impressive at all.
The second group started out badly. I called a flyer to the right just as the trigger broke. The gun, BTW, is an older model Kimber SS Custom Target, 5 inch.
That group, using 7.4 grs. of the same powder, went 1.5 inches, flyer and all. The two other holes were touching as well. The last group went 1.5 inches also with 7.8 grs.
The real surprise came when I checked after each three rounds for powder residue. There was none that I could pickup at the muzzle or the breech face. Using my little finger, it came up clean after all nine rds. That's in sharp contrast to the next three rds. with a 200 gr. lead SWC and 4.5 grs. of Bullseye. Even three rounds produced noticable residue. This Ramshot powder really is a clean burning powder. Easily the cleanest I've used in a handgun load.
According to Ramshot, with a jacketed 200 HP bullet, make not specified, 7.7 grs. produces 965 fps. at 20,100 psi. E

I had very good results with Ramshot Silhouette in my STI open gun in 9mm major, one of the few powders that could make major power factor safely.

E, this is good to hear, I see from looking at the burn rate charts that Silhouette is similar to Winchester's long discontinued WAP which was my favorite for 10mm. Should be worth investigating that...

I'm going to try it in my 10mm as well. I suggest you consult with Ramshot's website for the latest data. E

My old standby for 45acp was AA#5, but I couldn't get any during the ObamaScare. So I tried Ramshot Silhouette and was pleasantly surprized. Now it will be a long time before I buy any AA#5 smile
