I've got a Fenwick 8'6" #7 "Eagle" Graphite rod (USA Made) that I bought in 1982... it's been fished once! I bought it for bigger fish I never got around to going after. I'm thinking of putting it on e-bay and am wondering if anyone has any sense what sort of value an early, nearly new, USA Fenwick graphite might have...
Thanks!

Brad,
I don't intend to burst your bubble but I think the "money" in older fly rods is in pristine bamboo rods. Off hand I can't remember the names but some are worth far more than others. I've never been into collecting much of anything. I buy to use, not look at.

I'm sure you're right, though I had heard some preferred the first generation graphit over today's offerings. I once worked for a lady that had an old bamboo Hardy... it had NEVER been used! I tried to buy it from her but she'd have none of it, some sort of sentimental attatchment!

Brad, post a price when you get it figured out. I have a a couple "old" Fenwicks that survived a particularly nasty plott hound's desire for steelhead rods...he barely survived... but am still using them because I am cheap, not because I knew they were special.
What does it have for eyes and handle?

I have an Eagle Claw Blue diamong Grahite that i was given by the wife for as Birthday present in '81. I think.
It is a spinning rod, however, but is my all time faavorite boat rod for general fishing. I also have a friend whose has an older 8weight, 9' salmon rod. This one is glass I believe, (haven't seen it for some time) But will chuck a DT line an incredible distance. really nice to cast and handle. I have no idea what yours would be worth but I don't think it would be any more than originally paid for. You may get a collector that absolutely need it , though! The thing with E Bay is the same as a real auction, some times things get out of hand and an article goes for WAY more than it is worth due to bidding hysteria! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
