I have a 1999 Disco 2 and I have to say it is a great off-road vehicle but it will kill your wallet when it comes to repairs. As mentioned above they do not hold their value and if you do get one you better live close to a dealer.

The keys alone cost $150 each to replace. One night the alarm mechanism went south on me and the horn blew for two hours until the tow truck could come get it. The neighbors were pissed and I had to have it towed 100 miles to the closest dealer. Oh yeah, the parts cost 3 times as much as domestic parts.

If you have the bank roll to support it then get it because they are great vehicles when they are running.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

This is funny. Your alarm story reminded me of my brothers. He called me from work because he could not get into his Disco. It would not unlock with the remote and he could not even use the key to get in. They had to tow it to the dealer who could not get in. They ended up breaking out a window to access the door pannel etc. 5 days down time.

Well put, you get a good one you are fine, a bad one, you better have a good friend at a close by dealer.

And even the good ones have quirks.

They are excellent off the pavement vehicles, but with the number of ECUs in them can cause problems, especially if you drive them in the wet stuff.

Make certain you have something else to drive during the shop time.................a while back someone told me if you buy a Range Rover, buy two so you have something to drive when one is in the shop.....that says it all.
