Any of you guys put a floor in a boat that didn't originally have one? I want to put a casting deck in the front of my Lund SSV-16, but I am unsure how to go about it. My original thought was to just wrap some plywood with vinyl and put it across the two front seats. Of course, some support would be needed underneath. Would you support this from the hull of the boat or just across the seats? I also don't really want to sacrifice the storage space underneath the floor. Most of the hatches that I've looked at aren't cheap. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If you have a good sheet metal shop, they could cut and bend you an aluminum deck to insert. Coat the top with non-slip paint. No worry about rot.

Sam,
I use the SSV-18 and have made a removeable "deck" that rests on top of the two front seats. I have a fuel tank under the deck which is made of Baltic Birch [Finnish plywood]. I used two pieces of angle aluminum for stiffners, coated with urethane spar varnish and non-skid grit. The grit is ground walnut shells that are light enough to stay in suspension in the varnish can and usually available at paint stores.

We did that to a ski doo that we had. We cut some 3/4" plywood and layed it down, no finish or anything. the space underneath was enough to fit a cooler under,
