Recently picked up a 39a and the first serial numbers are 68. Would this be the manufacturing date?
Thanks

Thanks digger, must have a odd serial number as it doesn't correspond with that dating method.

Neither, its the older version, serial number begins with 68 with 8 digits all together. Best I can determine its a late 1968 model.

Negative, I believe the late 68 models actually began with 68 but could be wrong.
Also the original owner for some reason called it a Golden spike so seems to correspond with that era.

golden spike guns are commemoratives.. ones I have seen were all 1969.. 100 yrs commemoration of the 1869 railroad spike.

This rifle is certainly not a commemorative but it is in very nice shape with only a few boxes of rounds put through it. Thanks for the help.
