, and only gains a few hundred fps over the 223 AI? Your arguement holds no water in the world of ballistics. An increase of "a few hundred fps" is considered substantial. Look at the differences between a 7-08, 280, 7 WSM etc...Someone thought there was enough of a different to justify those difference cartridges...

Amen steely. So let me get this straight. A .223 AI using 28 grains of powder to push a 50 grain bullet at 3,500 fps is cool, but a .22-250 using 34 grains of powder to push the same 50 grain bullet at 3,900 fps. isn't cool? Stretching case....what???? If you are getting stretching, try neck sizing and sizing to fit your chamber. It works wonders...sheesh. Sure, it is a cool little round, but will never be a .22-250 any more than a .30-06 will ever be a .300 WM. But, it is fun to talk about. I too would rather run 75 grain Vmax's at 3+ grand. Love that load! Flinch

And yet another reason to go the AI route. Very true. A newbie here could do very well for himslef by just looking at all of Swampy's posts and doing as well as beleiving the exact opposite of what he or she sees there.

Get's a bit tougher to call shots with a lwt 22/250, but not impossible. The 223 does so with aplomb.
When it comes time to throw something 55grs and heavier fast as hell I do it in a 243.

Thought I was the only one to notice...but I can see everything that happens with the AI.... my little Model 7 CDL in .22-250...not so much...

Watching [bleep] unfold through the scope is never a bad thing and something unappreciated by many to my way of thinking. Yet another reason less X's when long range shooting anything with some recoil.

the 100fps spread was comparing a 23" barrel to a 27" barrel.
This ain't my first go round with the 223 AI's. N133 is 100-150fps faster than benchmark.
I get no hard extraction, no stiff bolt lift, neck size the cases...what's the problem?
I'm shooting these loads in 700's and 40x's and one Winchester, not Encores, Ruger #1's, or Contenders.

It also won't eat powder and barrel steel as fast either. +1 Love my heavy 223 AI p/dogger.....just enough extra punch out of a 223 case...3500 fps w/moly Nosler 55 BT....27.5/Benchmark...safe load in my Pac Nor chambered barrel.....

Don't get me wrong, i really like my 223ai, but I also like my 223's, 204, and 22-250AI. All are running different grain bullets, and set up differently. The 204 is very similar to the 223AI when running light bullets. On a side note, Ackley never messed with a 223, so technically it is just a 223 Improved...

Logistics, modest appetite, great bullets and no trimming, what's not to like?
Can't fathom not owning at least one 223 or AI there of. Jesus, he's gotta throw the logistics schit in there.....[bleep], the USPS and UPS have no problems getting 222 Mag brass, even ammo once, to my door.....(laffin') Seriously, everyone should have a fast twisted 222 Mag (or a 223 AI if you must) to discern what's not to like... Gotta go with Steely; if I wanna throw a [bleep]' on something varmint-like its gonna be with a 257 Roberts, not some baloney tidded 1-14 22-250.... Plus, everyone gets tired of a 22-250 going off in a PD town....even the PD's.

Lest we forget, the rifle will have zero resale value after the chamber is boogered up.

Not everyone agrees with that, though it's great for the marketing folks to sell guns. A 7-08 will take game at ranges further than 98% of the hunting public can accurately place their shots. To me the logical step after the .223AI is the .243. 55's @ 4000, 75's @ 3500 and 85's @ 3300, now your talking about a balistic improvement.
