can the ar15 feed brass with a .473" case head? i know the bolt head is different but can it be setup for a single stack as long as the OAL on the ammo it short enough for the mag?

Yes. Olympic Arms makes the 6.5 Grendel upper, which I'm 99.9% sure is a .473 boltface. Oly Arms also sells uppers/rifles in the WSSM chamberings with .535" case rim diameter.

i thought the grendel was a .378 case. ppc parent. i also just assumed the wssm guns were of the AR10 variety. it had never occured to me that they could fit in a 15... will try that tromix site now..

after finding info on the parent case for the 458 socom it said it all in one sentence.
the 458 is a 50ae case with a rebated rim like a 308 and function in an ar15......
guess my shortened 284 case idea has been trumped by the 50AE.... oh well. what a great round! 2100 fps w/300 grainer in a semi auto........ geez

I understand some WSMs are being built on the AR10. Oly is definitely doing the WSSMs on the AR15.
Tromix DOES turn out some crazy stuff. I'd love to play with one of their 50AE or 458SOCOM rifles. Daily feeding of such a beast might not be too economical.

Shane, I think the Grendel is based on the PPC cartridges, which are based on the .220 Russian, (according to Nosler RG, 5th ed.) The PPC cases have a head of .445 I realize this doesn't answer the original question, is there a a .473 cartridge chambered in the AR-15 platform? I don't know. Sycamore
