1 elk, quartering away, 270 140 gr, 1 shot. She went 50 yards and piled up, found the bullet under the off side hide with perfect expansion and, IIRC, 68% weight retention. I'll be using them again.

Finished off a cow at 250ish in the high neck with a 160 out of my 7rm. Bang flop obviously.

This last year I shot my bull at 40ish yards with the same combo. Quartering away, I put the bullet in one of the last ribs, and it exited through the high chest/low neck. Ran 50 yards and piled up.

Easy enough blood trail.

I've also used or seen this combo work on two bears, and ten or eleven deer.

They all worked wonderfully, even a whitetail buck I killed at 14 yards. Huge entrance hole, but still put him down right away.

One cow elk shot at 250 yds with a 225 gr AB from a 338 WM. Passthrough of ribcage, DRT. One bull elk at 320 yds with a 225 gr AB from a 338 RUM. Slight quartering away shot, hit onside ribs and shattered offside shoulder but did not exit. Bull collapsed at the shot. Found small bullet fragments around the shattered shoulder bone. One cow elk at 300 yds with a 200 gr AB from a 300 WM. Passthrough of ribcage, DRT. All in all, I am pretty happy with Accubonds.

Here is a pic of the damage of a 200gr Accubond from a 300RUM at 200 metres taken a couple years ago by a hunter in Alberta on a large bull elk. I dont think the bull went anywhere but down to the ground..what do you think?

From my experiences also...smaller entrance wound with huge exits.

200 gr .30 call out of .300 RUM 250+yards. Elk 6X6. Broke shoulder going in found on opposite side against hide. Perfect mushroom but expanded all the way back and weighed about 90 grain. Elk 4 feet in the air one shot.

The only elk that I've shot with an Accubond was a cow. One shot, behind the shoulder at 140 yds with a 160 gr AB from my 7mm Rem mag. She fell at the shot, rolled about 30 yds downhill, and never moved again.

I used that 7mm Rem mag with 160 gr Accubonds in South Africa for 6 antelope varying from Common Duiker to Black wildebeest. Ranges were from 60 to 250 yds, and shots were "on the shoulder." All bullets completely passed through the animals leaving a 1 1/2" exit hole and MASSIVE internal damage.

I used the same combination, 7mm 160 gr AB but different rifle in northern Canada for two Caribou and a Musk ox. Caribou were one shot DRT kills, the Musk ox was a quartering away shot so I gave him an insurance shot.

The only elk I've killed with an Accubond was a small rag horn two years ago. The bull was no more than 80 yards and broadside. The bullet went completely through and the elk took about three steps and that was it. It was a 200gr bullet out of a 300 H&H.

Based off what I've seen- which let me say up front is restricted to "big" AB's from "big" calibers at MV's under 2900 fps- I'd shoot a bull in the shoulder with an Accubond without hesitation. Not even a second thought. Ka-BOOM! smile

I mean sheesh... shooting a deer through the butt, including the hip joint, at close range with a magnum rifle is a test of a bullet to be sure, and has GOT to be similar to an elk shoulder. No problems there. But then as I said above, that was with 200 grains of bullet. Maybe the smaller, lighter AB's driven fast blow up; I don't know.

11 elk and all but one has been bang flop. All have been shot less than 100 yards with a 300 WM or 300 Ultra. All with a 200 accubond

Great feedback all, and pics. Jeffo, applaud your having the bolt open in your pic, try to always open my action for safety, and to give peace of mind to those around me, as well as set an example for my kids and whoever sees the pics. It's rare to see that in pics.

Had a guy walk up to me and my deer I dropped years back with my Classic Swede, he had an 870 shooting in thick brush, had the safety off and I asked him if it was unloaded, he said the safety was on, and I corrected him!

I wonder if Accubonds might be getting more play than Partitions, as the ABs have such a reputation for accuracy and they seem to kill just about as well from most all accounts.

They also cost less.

I know, I know, we shouldn't be counting bullet-pennies when hunting elk or other large animals, but here in Montana the average worked doesn't make all that much, and elk meat and elk bullets both make a big difference in the family budget. If something works, and costs less, the word gets around.

So who's loading Accubonds for elk for this next season?

I'll be running the .338/225-gn, .30/200-gn, and if it shoots in my new tube, the 7mm/160-gn.

A whole lotta goodness comes together in a heavier-for-caliber Accubond!

400 yards and change slightly downward angle, right next to spine, through chest out the breast, the 6x6 traveled 5.5 feet, sideways as he fell over. Such a failure, almost ashamed to tell about it. A real bullet would have had the freezer paper on him, ready for the cooler.

This one was killed with my 300WSM 180gr Accubonds. Shot was about 330 yards. I hit her right behind the shoulder but clipped her spine to so she only took one step and fell down the hill out of sight.

My little brother killed this one with his 7mm-300Weatherby 160gr Accubonds. This was his first big game animal killed opening morning of his first hunting season. As you can see, the shot was in the vital area. Not tight up behind the shoulder but still within the chest cavity. As the bullet passed through, it ruptured the diaphragm and pulled intestines and other guts out the exit hole but did not rupture them. Bull took one step and rolled down the hill too.

I shot a 5x bull last year at 75 yards. Complete penetration, massive internal damage, elk went 50-75 yards downhill. Cartridge was 300 SAUM at 2900 ft/sec velocity. I'm using them again this year.

The only elk kill I have with an Accubond was a 260 gr. from my 375 H&H. Hey, I was getting ready for an African trip. Broadside, 225 yards, kinda far forward through the shoulders. She ran about 15 yards.
