A family friend has a 1971 Marlin Golden 39a, still in the box, hasn't even had a round chambered in it and he said he may be interested in selling it.
I've been looking for one for a while, but haven't really put much research into it to know what years were good, what were the best and worst years, etc.
I see that it only books for around $400, but I figure it's worth more than that judging by what they go for on gunbroker. If I do happen to buy it, it will be shot and used, because I don't have much use for safe queens.
Thank you for any info.

I use the heck out of my 1970's Marlin 39A. It truly is my all time favorite rifle, and I've got a few nice ones. I'd rather shoot the little Marlin than anything else. Accurate, easy to shoot, reliable and just plain fun. Of course this might have something to do with learning to shoot using a .22 Marlin back in the early 1960's... Great memories...

Marlin Golden 39A represents the oldest and longest continually produced a shoulder weapon in the world. Model Golden 39A Marlin model began life in 1891, the first lever rifle ever chambered in .22 LR and the magazine was loaded through the port side of the traditional handset. Marlin Model Golden 39A is still commercially available in 24 round barrel, pistol grip and trigger the signing of a golden color. Model Golden 39A is constructed with metal parts and forged American grown black walnut.

Until youve held and shot a Marlin, you dont know what a lever-action rifle can be. The ultra-smooth cycling and solid feel are created through a superior receiver design, the finest materials and a flawless meshing of these high-quality components. To produce our trademark excellence, our lever actions are built to strict tolerances rivaling those used to craft custom rifles. Further, all major components of the action are machined from heat-treated, solid steel forgings. The Marlin lever actions swift pointing characteristics, lightning-fast follow-ups, reliability and inherent accuracy have made it Americas favorite. And what started with the invention of the first flat-top, side-eject receiver in 1889 has led us to pioneer every major advancement in the lever-action category since.

Great 22 rifle!!!I've got one I bought new in 1976.I haven't shot it too much in the last 30yrs,so recently I decided to scope it.I put a Bushnell 3200 3x9x40 on it.When I sighted it in,I could not believe how well it shot!!!At fifty yards,I was putting them in the same hole!!!!
