I use the RCBS .30-180 FP which drops at 187 grains from clip on wheel weight alloy with 35 grains of H-414. Gives me 1970 fps and is the most consistent and accurate (2-2.5 MOA)in all 3 of my .30-30s. Lyman 311041 is also good for deer giving 2.5" holes through lungs. HTH

Are you looking to purchase or cast your own? I have a this mold http://www.ranchdogoutdoors.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_5_16&products_id=31 that is specifically designed for use in the 336. Both of the other molds mentioned above are also good and proven choices. If you want some of the Ranch Dog boolits I'd be happy to sell you a sample. Most guys over at www.castboolits.gunloads.com are willing to sell or trade boolits to sample to see what your gun likes.

Ranch Dog is back in the game now as well. He was out of selling molds for a while, but he's apparently gotten back into the swing of things. There is also load data available on the link that I gave you above to Ranch Dog's site.

Thanks for the link. I ordered a TLC311-165-RF this afternoon after reading his website.
Going to use it in my 1955 vintage 336 SC.

You will be very, very pleased - good choice! If you haven't got some Bullplate Sprue Lube - web page here - http://bullshop.gunloads.com/tbs_lube.htm it is well worth the cost for the lube, especially with aluminum molds. Buy about four bottles, they will fit into a flat rate box and you'll eventually spill one, and combined with beeswax it makes a GREAT boolit lube known as "speed green" (also for sale on that webpage). This stuff is like magic - no lead sticking to mold block tops, no alignment pins sticking. I don't begin a casting session without an application to my molds as directed.
