I have hunted Idaho as a non-resident 3 times. But I have only done over the counter purchases.

This year I would like to apply for a controlled hunt. My question may be hard to articulate.

I want to apply for a controlled deer hunt. What do I need to purchase to apply?

In some states it's the $6-$40 application fee and you buy the license/tag IF you draw. Money is tight and to get out for Spring Bear will be $400. I would like a to catch up a few pay periods before dumping another $300 on a non-res Idaho deer tag, but I think apps are due this week?

Can anyone tell me: If the regs are even out to apply? When the deadline is? And if I need to purchase the deer tag(roughly $300) and the non resident hunting license(roughly $150) before I can even apply for a Controlled Deer hunt?

All I have done is bear and purchased both the bear tag and hunting license over the counter at a local sports shop and went hunting.

Since I live so close I don't want to miss an opportunity to get in on some quality hunts

Here's the site:

http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/

Regs will be online next week.

To apply, you have to purchase a license for $154.75 and the app fee is $14.75 for deer. If you draw, the deer tag is $301.75.

Good luck!

Did a review and that's how I interpret it. At least I can throw it on a Credit Card and pay it off later.

For the record, that's how it works for deer, elk, bear, and antelope. For moose, sheep, and goats, you have to send in the tag money, too. If you don't draw, it's refunded.

Jesse that is the correct interpretation...

Have I ever mentioned that I hate applying for Idaho 170 bucks just for a chance at one hunt you dont even have a chance at your 2nd choice

I guess the actual odds are good but if you dont draw you feel compelled to go buy a general tag and try to shoot a forked horn
